Abruzzo Holidays ? Are You Kidding ?

With memories of the Abruzzo earthquake still fresh, timely reassurance that Abruzzo holidays aren't an excursion into danger, but still a fantastic holiday destination.

Sounds Familiar ?

The conversation goes something like this…

- Where are you going for your holidays this year ?

- We thought we'd try Abruzzo in Italy.

- Abruzzo holidays ? Are you kidding ? The whole place is an earthquake zone !

And by that reckoning, so too is California. And Mexico. And Turkey. And Greece. And Japan. And a whole host of other top holiday destinations. But to think that every last square inch of these countries is prone to earthquakes would be simply wrong. The key is knowing where the earthquake hotspots are.

Italy's earthquake hotspotsTake a look at this map issued by Italy's National earthquake and volcano Institute. The purple-coloured area most prone to earthquake activity runs down the spine of Italy's Apennine chain. L'Aquila has the misfortune to be located squarely within this area.

Now look at Tuscany, Rome and Venice – Italy's most popular holiday destinations. On the map, they're shaded green and yellow, indicating they're regarded as low-risk earthquake zones.

And shaded green and yellow too is the area of Abruzzo running down from the Apennines to the Adriatic Sea. In other words, it's an area regarded as low-risk as Tuscany, Rome and Venice.

It's in this area of Abruzzo – 100 kilometers away from L'Aquila – that you'll find Villasfor2.

You're Renting Abruzzo Holiday Homes – You Would Say That !

That's true – but it'd be dishonest, immoral and probably illegal to try and pretend earthquakes don't happen in Italy. They do. And because they do, we've had to build our own home and our Abruzzo holiday homes to the most stringent modern anti-earthquake specifications.

The equation's a simple one. A design without the full set of these anti-earthquake specifications = No building permit.

Interestingly, our London-based insurance broker tells me that our home and Abruzzo holiday villas are the first to be approved for cover since the earthquake. In his words, 'things are looking up'

Which is reassuring for us. And we hope reassuring for you too.
