Our Abruzzo Property Project – Fancy A Swim ?
Latest news from our Abruzzo property build – the shape and size of the swimming pool. So when it gets hot on your Abruzzo holiday you can cool off with a refreshing dip !
Come On In – The Water's Lovely !
Inside, the walls of our new Abruzzo home are going up. Outside, the pool's about to go down.
A pool's always been a key part of the plan, because we think it's important when you're staying at our Abruzzo villas for two, that you have a choice between going to the beach at Fossacesia or Le Morge about half-an-hour away, or simply walking a few steps from your villa to the big poolside terrace where your sunbed will be waiting for you.
We've teamed-up with local company Centro Tropicale Piscine – here are a few of the pools they've recently built – and agreed on a 'bean-shaped' pool design.
We've opted too for the latest salt-water purification system, which is much kinder to your skin, eyes, hair – and sense of smell ! – than old-fashioned chlorine systems.
Work on constructing the pool will start in late October, or early November, well in time for your Abruzzo holiday in 2009.
Where To Boil An Egg
And of course as well as somewhere to swim, you need somewhere to stay and building work on your Abruzzo villas for two and our own home continues apace.
Hard to believe that at the start of July, there was little more than bare earth on the site.
You can see the rate of progress we've made since on our new Abruzzo home and work starts this week on roofing the villas.
That'll mean transferring the a forest of red acro-props from the first floor of our house where at the moment they're keeping the roof up while the concrete sets.
That's taken a day or two longer than in the heat of high summer, because we actually had some rain last week. Just a couple of short, sharp showers on Wednesday and Thursday, but as we'd only had a couple of day's rain prior to that since mid-June, we can hardly complain !
On the ground floor, the bricklaying work progresses with astonishing speed and skill getting the walls up. Both in our house and your villas, we're using the big, traditional terracotta blocks you can see in the picture. The honeycomb design keeps the heat out in summer – and in in winter.
This coming week we have to choose kitchens. For us and for you. Chances are you'll probably want to sample as many as possible of the great places to eat around here. But should you want to fix yourself a bite in your villa, you'll find all you need.
Meanwhile we're standing in our kitchen trying to figure out what'll go where. But we keep getting distracted by the views…
When you get here for your Abruzzo holiday and see those views for yourself – you'll understand…
