Each Saturday, David Brenner of ‘Villasfor2′ in Abruzzo selects a delicious, top-value ‘Everyday Italian Wine’ for you to try at home - or enjoy on your Abruzzo vacation !

‘Sober reflection’ probably isn’t the most apt phrase to choose for looking back at the wines I’ve drunk on your behalf over the past 20 weeks - but you get the drift I’m sure.

So far, we’ve tried eight reds; seven whites; three pinks; one Proseccco - and a couple of whimsical little forays into Lambrusco and Grappa. There’s been only one genuine disaster - a cork-tainted bottle of Chianti Classico…

In ‘Blog of Blogs 1′, we told you about the why’s and how’s of our move to Abruzzo. So we’re here. Where’s ‘here’ ? On the fringes of the Majella National Park outside the tiny hamlet of Ascigno, just to the north of Casoli.

We’ve found an Abruzzo property where we’d like to live and run our ‘Villasfor2′ holidays for couples business - but we haven’t actually bought it yet. Now what ?

Orvieto Classico ‘La Raggiera’.2007. GIV

Orvieto’s a wine that tries its best to cater for all tastes. And that’s a key weakness - in trying to be all things to all wine-drinkers, it can become desperately bland and dull….but that’s a criticism from which this particular everyday Orvieto is exempt. The brand-name La Raggiera means ‘The Halo’, and while it might fall a little short of such implied saintly qualities, it proves yet again that good wine can be found for a modest outlay…
