Shopping For Your Holiday For Two Villa
We want your holiday for two villa to be as comfortable, welcoming and typically Abruzzese as possible – and for great design ideas, we’re in just the right country !
It all seemed so simple. As we've mentioned, the plans have been officially approved and rebuilding work's about to start on our own home and the villas for your couples-only holidays. And now we know for sure how your villa will look on the outside, it made sense to start thinking seriously about what'd be going on inside.
So we began to make a shopping list…
- Tiles for the floor - and your outside terrace.
- Sinks, showers, loos, bidets, taps and towel rails.
- And towels…
- ..and bed-linen
- …and beds !
- And somewhere comfortable to sit and relax…
- …and somewhere for your clothes and the other assorted bits and pieces you've brought on your Abruzzo vacation.
- Pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, glasses, corkscrew, garlic press and more besides.
- And somewhere to store it all.
- Somewhere to fix yourself some food.
- And eat it.
- And a refrigerator ! (Can't have the wine and beer going warm…)
- Your own table, chairs and sun-umbrella for outside.
- And your own sunbeds and umbrellas by the pool. Obviously.
Is that it ?
- No ! Lights ! (How could we forget the lights ?)
OK. Let's start with the tiles. Gosh, this is nice. And so's that. I really like that. But that's just lovely. And…
I don't know if there's such a thing as 'tile blindness', but if there is, I think I've got it. In the umpteenth warehouse we visited, they all started blurring together into one giant amorphous terracotta mass. And which did we choose ? Which can you look forward to walking on when you first enter your holiday for two villa ? That's right - none of them. But the good news is we've narrowed it down to about 50-60 possibles…
There's the small matter of a 10-month build project before we can move into our new house and you can begin your couples-only holidays. Demolition of the existing buildings starts on Saturday. Or Sunday. Or Monday. Definitely.
And while that's going on, the delightful wildflower meadow currently adorning the site will be turned into winter fodder for cattle and an access road will be built for the diggers, dozers, cranes, lorries and mixers. And Pauline and I will be zipping through the rubble pulling out the reusable bits.
In fact, I write this blog hot on the heels of a site visit with our fantastic architect/designer/engineer/project manager Gianmarco; our builders Nunzio and Marco; and the key figure in getting the show on the road - Domenico the Demolition Man.
It's only when all the different strands suddenly start coming together - as they're now doing with a slightly unnerving speed - that you realise with a jolt what a huge project this is. But those nerves are eased considerably by the reassuring and total commitment from everyone involved to turn this site into a truly memorable spot for your Abruzzo vacation.
All we have to do is stop dithering over which tiles to choose and make sure they're ordered, delivered and on site when they're needed. And the same goes for everything else on the shopping list. All you have to do is enjoy the result !
